You\'ll see this advantage throughout this machine (especially the engine bay.) And one of the best CJ-style pieces are the wheels and tires. The understated black setup doesn\'t attract much attention, but this classic Jeep has a modern set of off-road tires. That makes it a far more useful machine. And overall, the fit, finish, and features prove the heart of this one\'s appeal is all about being a 4x4 that\'s easy to have some off-road fun. A military Jeep was quite basic inside, and that\'s part of the fun. The steering wheel is thin/grippy steel, and you have the essential gauges in the center. The whole idea is to be both robust and foolproof. That\'s why the four-wheel-drive instructions have their own decal on the dash. The rear seat is even done in classic-style canvas covers. The front seats have been upgraded to newer CJ-style units to give you better padding when you drive and seatbelts. While the M38A1 was only available with the classic Hurricane four-cylinder motor, the CJ5 has some more powerful options. One of the most interesting ones was the Dauntless 225 cubic-inch motor. This was actually a Buick V6 that AMC/Jeep bought to add more power to their arsenal. This motor was so good GM bought it back and used it for decades. There have been nice investments here, including newer tune-up items like hoses, wires, and plugs. Plus, there\'s a newer aluminum radiator. It\'s a healthy motor that loves to run, and the three-speed manual transmission puts you in firm control of all the action. Also, the two-speed 4x4 transfer case combines with the short wheelbase and good ground clearance to deliver the fundamental go-anywhere nature of a Jeep.
