1926 Ford Model T Roadster Pickup VIN: 14534371 From the early days of Ford, in addition to passenger vehicles, the company produced numerous cab and chassis for commercial use. Independent coach builders then outfitted the trucks to meet specific demand. Model T Owners were known to get creative with their passenger cars to fashion a bed for utility use, so Pickups were added to the Ford catalog in May 1925. There were two variations, a fixed cab pickup derived from the 2-door coupe and an open-top roadster pickup which was particularly adapted to the needs of orchardists in areas where cold weather was not a concern. A roadster pickup with its top and windshield lowered could maneuver under rows of orchard crops, hauling fruit and supplying pickers and it was better at it than any other vehicle then or since. Officially called Model T Runabout with Pickup Body, the very suitability of roadster pickups to the specific needs of orchard crops has contributed to their rarity as they were treated like the utility vehicles Ford intended them to be. The majority of these trucks were used up and driven into the ground over years and years of use. The Ford Model T Roadster Pickup presented at auction is a restored example that is ready to drive and enjoy! It is believed that this truck was a complete, original truck that was then subjected to a total restoration. The body appears to have been removed from the chassis with the chassis prepped and painted. The engine number indicates a production date in 1926 lending credibility to the original nature of this truck. Bud Cheney of Idaho Antique Engines, one of the best engine rebuilders in the US, rebuilt the motor. The transmission appears to have been rebuilt as well given the tight nature of the bands when driving. The car starts and runs on battery with the magneto in need of attention. The body presents itself as Fords likely looked back in the day. The Black fenders show repair work and some bubbling is present on some Green body panels. The Pickup Bed shows well, both the metal sides and the replaced wood bed. The paint can be described as Ford Model T Quality with some scratched present consistent with the car being enjoyed as an antique driver. The wood spoke wheels are in good condition as are the BF Goodrich Tires. The interior of the car shows very well. Tan upholstery on the seats and door panels are in very good condition and the floor mat is Ford Script. The floor boards under the mat is in very good condition. The dash shows well and the windshield glass is free of scratches. The convertible top was installed new during the restoration and presents well. The rear plastic window is clear. This is a great piece of motoring history and well suited for any collection, use as a cruiser or enjoy as a parade vehicle.
