Rhode island - PawtucketInterior Color: Tan Exterior Color: Red Description: 1955 Porsche 356 Speedster 1500 Super - Real Deal Speedster, NOT A REPLICA! - Beautifully Restored - Non-Numbers Matching 1488cc 4 Cylinder - 4 Speed Manual Transmission - 1805 Miles Shown - Red Exterior - Tan Interior With Bucket Seats Exceptional for its design, handling, and collectability, the Porsche Speedster is a car that wows car enthusiasts and passerby alike. Taking in the curves, and simplicity of a Speedster is always enjoyable, however, being able to stand in front of a restored, original Speedster is a rare occurrence. We\'re proud to offer such a beautiful example of a Pre-A Speedster for your consideration. The car you see here is a 1955 Porsche Pre-A Speedster 1500 finished in Signal Red over a tan interior, and currently showing 1805 miles on the mechanical odometer. An interesting bit of history is pictured in our listing, a copy of the Kardex document, which served as a record of warranty claims. Often, these Kardex documents are seen with 356 historical documents since part of the document mentions the first owner\'s name, the vehicle\'s identification number, the engine and transmission numbers, and the vehicle\'s original color scheme. On the document for this particular car, if we\'re reading the somewhat sloppy handwriting on the document correctly, there is one listing in which the owner paid $13.45 for some sort of service claim on 11/22/55. In looking further at the document we can see that a RJ Smith was the owner of the car at the time, and the car was originally finished in Signal Red (Signalrot) over a Black (Schwartz) interior. The engine number, transmission number, ignition key number, and the vehicle\'s identification number are listed along the top of the Kardex document. As you can see in our many photos, the car is currently finished in Signal Red over a tan interior, which is a great color combination. We would be happy with either a black or tan interior in a beautiful car like this Speedster. The car you see here is a product of a careful restoration which was clearly done by professionals as evidenced by the beautiful paint, crisp interior, and the body panel fitment. Exterior condition is beautiful, with chrome and brightwork that is in exceptional condition right down to the horn grilles at the front of the car. Silver painted wheels capped by the moon hubcaps finish off the exterior look of the Speedster, and stick with the curvy lines of the rest of the body. With such a simple interior which consists of a few seats, there is a lot of carpeting visible. During the restoration process, tan square weave carpeting was chosen to cover the large carpeted areas of the car. This includes the seat backs. While we\'re on the topic of the seats, you can see in our photos that the seats have added headrests, which as you may expect can also be removed to give the car a more standard Speedster look. The headrests are held in place with attractive hardware, so using the car without the headrests won\'t cause any visual detraction from the beautiful interior finish. A roll bar and harnesses for racing are also included in the sale of the car. Should you choose to throw the car around a racetrack, or participate in a vintage rallye, you\'re all set with safety gear. As you can see at the rear of the car, the car is badged as a 1600, though it features a 1500cc engine. What we found is that Pre-A Speedsters like this car didn\'t have the 1600 engine. It\'s more common to see the 1600 engines in later model Speedsters beginning in the 1956 model year. According to the combination of the Max Hoffman/Kardex paperwork that accompanies this car, and our research, this particular Speedster left the factory with a 1498cc engine, engine number 34488, which is a 546/2 engine code. The engine would\'ve had about 54 horsepower, which is plenty to have fun with a small car like this one. The car now has a replacement 1498cc engine, which many 1956-57 model year 356\'s and Speedsters came fro
