FOR SALE: 1964 Mercedes Benz 230SL $55,500 USD

Mercedes 230 Manual

Interior Color: Tan Exterior Color: Mojave Gold Description: 1964 Mercedes-Benz 230SL Roadster The Mercedes-Benz W 113 is a two-seat roadster/coupé, introduced at the 1963 Geneva Motor Show, and produced from 1963 through 1971.  It replaced both the 300SL, (W 198), and the 190SL, (W 121).  Of the 48,912 W 113SLs produced, 19,440 were sold in the US.  The W 113 SL was developed under the auspices of Mercedes-Benz Technical Director Fritz Nallinger, Chief Engineer Rudolf Uhlenhaut and Head of Styling Friedrich Geiger.  The lead designers were Paul Bracq and Béla Barényi, who created its patented, slightly concave hardtop, which inspired the Pagoda nickname. If this writer had to pick a Mercedes Benz to take home and put in his garage, this is definitely the IT car to do so.  With its thin body styling, Pagoda top which is virtually all glass with thin supports, a tan canvas soft top, the large front headlights playing with the central thin horizontal chromed tri star badged grille and just the overall style is pure class in this example of a 230SL from 1964.  A right hand drive version with a new Zebrano wood kit, a redone engine and transmission, a manual top hoist, and tons of repair receipts detailing the vast array of repairs performed during our consignor\'s ownership tenure make for one very nice SL.   Sit back and prepare yourself to fall in love all over again with this 50,875 title verified mileage personal sports car from the motherland. Exterior Mercedes-Benz found itself in a position where it needed to cater to the buyer who wanted a Benz with the performance and styling but could not afford the 300SL which was priced for the very affluent customer.  So it set out to develop what would become the 230SL, which was an entirely new platform, had the Pagoda styled roof, and sported an inline 6 cylinder engine .  Here we have the result and the lines are just stunning.  The vertical rounded over and enclosed head lighting, the thin body styling, raked front chromed edged horizontal grille with large tri star badge in its center, the list just goes on and on as to the class this car exudes.  The roofline alone is worth the price of admission for this car with its thin pillars, abundance of chrome edging and of course the V shaped B pillars with the concave hardtop.  The car is bathed in 1972 Chevrolet Mojave Gold and has a matching hardtop, a pleasant color change from the original green.  Not in the mood for enclosed driving, then use the included top hoist and remove the hardtop and flip up the tan canvas soft top.  This soft top shows with a few tears and seam separations at the base of the B-pillars and sports a fairly clear but wrinkled plastic rear window.  Or better yet, go topless and enjoy the summer sun.  Gaps are excellent, the paint is evenly applied and nice, and all chrome trimmings right down to the rocker trimmings are all shiny and non-pitted.  Even the wheel coverings are set to impress with their use of silver painted steel wheels sporting a central gold painted and edged in chrome with a chromed tri star badged dog dish center.  Like new Cooper all season blackwall radials wrap the wheels and are from the 3rd week of 2005.  Then let\'s add some trim rings on the edges and all I can say is WOW!  There are some inclusions in the paint, particularly in one small area near the hood edge just forward of the front vent on the driver\'s side as well as on the passenger\'s door, but otherwise very nice.  Our back, new split bumpers in bright and shiny chrome wrap around the rear quarter panels and just above are the chrome trimmed tail lights.    Interior A swing of the low slung door reveals a nifty armrest covered in saddle leather and sporting shiny knobs and actuators along with a dark brown leather pull and deep hardside map pockets on the panels.  Inside, newly recovered wonderfully rounded over overstuffed bomber styled buckets with some vertical tuck and roll inserts and piped smooth bolsters await your body to be enveloped.  These present in a lighte

FOR SALE: 1966 Mercedes Benz 230SL $51,900 USD

Mercedes 230 Automatic

Interior Color: Cream Exterior Color: Cream Description: Looking like it is an extra from an episode of television\'s Mad Men, this 1966 Mercedes 230SL oozes cool. This car was delivered to Ed Potter Inc., in Columbus, Ohio. The car\'s first maintenance was performed on June 26, 1967, at 3,877 miles. This is a wonderful driver quality example, perfect for cruising and local car shows. Made in Stuttgart, West Germany, this two-seater was ahead of its time in some respects during the mid-1960s. The bonnet, trunk lid, door skins and tonneau cover were made of aluminum to reduce weight. The comparatively short and wide chassis, combined with an excellent suspension, powerful brakes and radial tires gave the W113 superb handling for its time. Wearing a gold hardtop over a cream-colored body, the car\'s paint and trim are in overall very good order. The bodywork is straight and solid, the chrome bumpers look great as well as fit tightly to the body and the cargo area is clean. The paint is older and shows with patina & grazing. Fuel gauge is inop. The styling of the front, with its characteristic upright headlights and simple chrome grille, dominated by the large three-pointed star in the nose panel, paid homage to the 300 SL roadster. This Benz rolls on older Road Handler radials, size 185 75R14 at every corner. Each tire is mounted to a steel wheel and topped with a body-colored factory wheel cover. The tires and wheels are all in good order showing age. Under the hood is a 2.3L SOHC straight six-cylinder engine with mechanical Bosch multi-port fuel injection (code M127.II). Backing this motor is a four-speed automatic transmission with a responsive fluid coupling, but no torque converter. We just installed a fully remanufactured transmission and torque converter at a $4k cost. Open the driver\'s door and you\'ll find cream-colored leather interior. The Connolly leather bucket seats look great and appear to be original, as does the matching Wilton wool carpet with a white headliner. A two-spoke steering wheel adds to the car\'s classic look. The two-tone dashboard and inner door panels echo the rest of the interior\'s condition. The center console, console-mounted shifter and a Becker AM/FM radio complete the interior. Production of the 230 SL commenced in June 1963 and ended on 5 January 1967. Its chassis was based on the W 111 sedan platform, with a reduced wheelbase by 11.8 inches, recirculating ball steering (with optional power steering), double wishbone front suspension and an independent single-joint, low-pivot swing rear-axle with transverse compensator spring. The dual-circuit brake system had front disc brakes and power-assisted rear drum brakes. The 230 SL was offered with a four-speed manual transmission, or an optional, very responsive fluid coupled (no torque converter) four-speed automatic transmission, which was popular for US models. The 2.3 L M127.II inline-six engine was based on Mercedes-Benz\' venerable M180 inline-six with four main bearings and mechanical Bosch multi-port fuel injection. Mercedes-Benz made a number of modifications to boost its power, including increasing displacement from 2.2L and using a completely new cylinder head with a higher compression ratio (9.3 vs. 8.7), enlarged valves and a modified camshaft. A fuel injection pump with six plungers instead of two was fitted, which allowed placing the nozzles in the cylinder head and shooting the fuel through the intake manifold and open valves directly into the combustion chambers. The W 113 was the first sports car with a safety body, based on Béla Barényi\'s extensive work on vehicle safety: It had a rigid passenger cell and designated crumple zones with impact-absorbing front and rear sections built into the vehicle structure. The interior was rounded, with all hard corners and edges removed, as in the W 111 sedan. Barényi and Paul Bracq created the car\'s patented, slightly concave hardtop, which became nicknamed the Pagoda. Documentation includes the original owner\'s manual. Com
